The
Urban Bush-Carpenters are bringing back old ways to help make a new world. We
are bringing back a DIY ethic focused on sustainable living through growing
your own food, making compost, keeping chooks and using worms to eat your food
scraps. Like the bush-carpenters of old we use found wood to make useful
things, the only difference is that we do it in the city. We find discarded
timber around town, outside building sites, down alleys and in skips to make
planter boxes, chookhouses, worm farms and compost bays for a range of
community groups.

Bush-carpentry workshops in Melbourne 2013
We have organised the first of our workshops for 2013 starting in March with a dual workshop. Both being held at the same time but a different locations, feel free to choose which one you would be most interested in attending. All workshops except the one being held at Wyndham will be held as the usual location at Ceres Environment Park,East Brunswick. We hope to see you there.
Seeking new members
Urban Bush Carpenters are seeking new members to join our small collective dedicated to spreading the gospel of sustainability and practical, no nonsense carpentry.
Your commitment would entail participating in workshops, contributing ideas and generally promoting the ethos of salvaging, socialising and sharing.

No booking system...
The bush carpenters are most content with a hammer or saw in their hands and a pile of timber from which to create something new. For this reason we have decided to scrap the booking system allowing us to spend more time doing the things we enjoy doing. If interested in attending one of our workshops you no longer have to contact us through our 'Contact us' tab. Instead simply turn up on the day and register with us on arrival where we will simply ask you your name.

$5 Donation
The UBCs run on the good will of a few like-minded people who volunteer to encourage the sharing and learning of skills common to bush carpentry. This includes resourcefulness and making the most of the materials at hand, getting to grips with hand tools and using recycled timber. The workshops are free, but at the beginning of each workshop appreciate a donation of $5 to help cover the cost of things such as drills, saws, screws, nails and other materials. At the end of the workshop should someone want to take home what we have built we would ask for an additional donation decided on the day.
